CHINMAYA MISSION
PUROHIT COURSE
2008 - 2010
“One who leads others on the path of goodness by keeping others’ interests before his own, is called a Purohit.”
THE TRADITION
Pujya Gurudev Swami Chinmayanandaji wanted Hindus to be "true practicing Hindus." In order to do so, he started Gurukulas to train Acharyas, who in turn could spread the message of Vedanta. In line with This vision, Chinmaya Mission now proposes to start a Purohit Course to train ‘Purohits’ (Hindu Priests) with knowledge of Puja Vidhis, Shodasha Samskaaras, Vaidik Chanting, Sanskrit, and Hindu Culture.
THE TEMPLE OF LEARNING
The course will be conducted by Chinmaya Vaidik Vidyapeeth in the sylvan surroundings of the Nilgiri Hills, at the Chinmaya Gardens Ashram, in Coimbatore, India.
FEATURES
• A one-and-a-half-year residential course
• Commencement on Vijaya Dashami, October 9, 2008
• Inauguration by Pujya Guruji Swami Tejomayanandaji
• No Course Fee. Free accommodation, food, clothes, medical care, and books will be provided by Chinmaya Garden Trust.
THE VEDA-PUTRAS
After completing the course, the Purohits may opt to work for the Chinmaya Mission, or pursue their individual goals.
EDUCATION FOR THE VEDA-PUTRAS (VIDYA DAANAM)
1. Sponsorship for 25 students for 1 ½ years: US$ 30,000
2. Sponsorship for 1 student for 1 ½ years: US$ 1,125
3. Sponsorship for 1 student for 1 ½ years: US$ 750
4. Sponsorship for 1 student for 6 months: US$ 375
5. Patron: US$ 250
6. Donor: US$ 125
BHIKSHAS FOR THE VEDA-PUTRAS (ANNA DAANAM)
1. Per Day Bhiksha: US$ 450
2. Lunch Bhiksha: US$ 300
3. Dinner Bhiksha: US$ 250
4. Breakfast Bhiksha: US$ 125
